Aliens
are cool. There, I've said it. Even so, they're not always that nice. In The Hum: Abductions, a first-person
sci-fi horror prequel to The Hum, an
"alien invasion simulator" that failed to reach its Kickstarter goal
a few years back, they definitely aren't. While the progress of the initial
game isn't clear, the prequel is very much in development, was greenlit a few
months ago, and should be on your radar. Remember, because aliens are
cool.
In Abductions, you play as Holly Sanders.
She's been having a rough time lately, to say the least. First, her husband
vanishes without a trace. Not even a note saying "Gone to get milk!
xox", nada. Then, if the trailer above is to be believed, she also loses
the only thing she has left. Her child. The bedroom door slams in her face,
locking itself, and bright blue light shines out from under it, all the while
with an otherworldly humming deafening her. Then all is quiet, the door
unlocks, and her child is gone. FIN.
I
believe Holly is then left to discover what is happening to her family, and
whether there is anything she can do to bring them home. While I’m not sure
whether that will be possible, I am sure that it will be scary to find out.
Something else that not everyone will know is the fact that Abductions is a part of a much bigger
sci-fi world, known as The Hum Universe. This includes novels, RPG books,
comics, sketches and soon, video games.
